  About Us

Nigel Turner and John Bennett are two fine art dealers who have known each other for almost thirty-five years and met when they both worked for the same London auction house. They gained considerable experience and knowledge by handling weekly sales of between 250 and 300 pictures, covering periods from the 15th to 20th centuries. This hands–on education was augmented by studying art books and visiting major museums and exhibitions on a regular basis.

Nigel left the auction world and then worked for two major London dealers for several years before being appointed manager of Los Angeles Fine Art. He was so successful in building up this business that he was able to buy out the owner and after over twenty-five years in Los Angeles, has established himself as one of the principal suppliers of paintings in the West of America.

John Bennett stayed longer in the auction world and ended up being head of the paintings department but left after ten years to join a London Old Master Paintings dealer. Two years later he set up on his own, eventually opening a gallery in Chelsea, London showing paintings from the 17th to early 2oth centuries.

Nigel and John have the advantage of having worked with such a huge number of paintings of many different periods that they both have developed a discerning eye and can  recognise quality. A good painting is a good painting whatever period it comes from and the technical ability of the painter, the appeal of the construction of the work and the condition, is valid for all centuries and schools. It becomes instinctive to recognise an interesting painting even if one is not acquainted with that painter or even particularly familiar with the branch of painting that painter represents.

The world of art is a fascinating subject as every day there is something new to learn or discover. This is principally why these two established dealers have decided to team up again after all these years and to set up a business rather different from their usual stock of paintings. It is to rekindle that enthusiasm for paintings, to gain some intimate knowledge of exciting and sometimes under appreciated painters, but principally to have fun because paintings should stir the emotions.

Their aim is to present to the interested public at Art Fairs in the U.S and U.K., pictures which are great images from the Modernist Movement principally covering 1920 to 1960. These will not necessarily be by artists who are well known to the general public but good paintings sought out and presented to a wider audience so that their worth can be better appreciated.

Modernism is the general term used to describe the various styles that evolved from the birth of avant-garde in the early 20th century and came to dominate Western Art and Architecture. Modernism encompasses so many styles: Post–Impressionism, Art Deco, Expressionism, Abstract Art, Cubism, Futurism, Fauvism, Constructivism, Vorticism, Surrealism, Dadaism to name but a few. Our paintings will cover all aspects of the human condition and reflect many emotions: some will be joyful, some humorous, some have dark undertones, others will be appealing just in a decorative sense. The website will constantly evolve with new items being added and either Nigel or John can answer any questions that you might have.

We hope that you find something to interest or intrigue you and look forward to hearing from you or seeing you at one of the shows at which we are exhibiting.
